Alien 1979 40th Anniversary

2019  |  PROCESS & BEHIND THE SCENES

This handmade paper animation celebrates the anniversary of Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi thriller 'Alien'. Inspired by the film, the animation takes you on a run, with the aim to extract the gist out of the great classic. I worked digitally with some hands-on ink painting, but mainly drawn on Procreate with the Ipad Pro and the Apple Pencil, then Canon inkjet printed on designers' paper.

Short tests are done to ensure fluidity.

The most interesting part of this animation is to recreate the opening of Nostromo hatch, and having the Xenomorph sucked out into space. I wanted to create a witty solution to this using very literally, illustration and paper, and no computer generated effects at all. Pacing the movement of the animation has always been the challenge, I must say, more improvement could be done!
